Photographer's Note

These open papyrus columns (21 m tall) are part of the aisle inside the Great Hypostyle Hall in the temple of god Amun at Karnak. At the left is a glimpse of the second pylon. A veritable forest in stone and being the most impressive part of the Karnak temple, the Great Hypostyle Hall was filled with 134 papyrus columns, the centre 12 being larger (21 m tall)and with open capitals and the remaining 122 along the sides smaller (15 m tall), with closed capitals.
