Esna, a photo from Qena, Inland

Photographer's Note

Esna is located on the west bank of the Nile some 55 km south of Luxor.
behind the orange minaret is the temple of Esna, dedicated to the god Khnum, his consorts Menhit and Nebtu, their son, Heka, and the goddess Neith, remarkable for the beauty of its site and the magnificence of its architecture.
But we haven't seen it.

Two barrage bridges straddle the Nile at this point: Navigation, particularly Nile cruisers can be held up for hours while vessels negotiate their way through the lock system.

We also had to wait.

a nice inclusion of the big boat with the architecture of the town in evidence ahead. I ever thought there was only a dam in the egyptian nile.

Ciao Malgo, i remember well the moment of arrival on the lock system, but we were in the night and i haven't pics like yours,so very useful with 3 very nice views of Esna banks close to the Nile,well done! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Malgo,
I can see your disappointment in the note about the temple you didn't see because it wasn't on the schedule for the tour. Such misses are among the reasons why I hate going with groups.
But you had a nice view from your boat anyway with two minarets, each one beautiful in its own way. Nice views in the WS too, especially #1 with the several minarets.

A nice view of the town and its tall minaret, which were bathing both in a nice and warm sunlight. The large ship is well included in the foreground as well and added some nice green and yellow tones, too.

I've never been to Esna but have heard the name many times. However I would have guessed that it would have been a small place while in your photos it looks like a city with all the buildings quite close together.
They are also multi-storey buildings where the high minaret still rises quite a bit above.
Nice to see orange minarets.
Great view in your main photo with the large ship in front of the town.

Hello Malgo,

You supply interesting notes about travelling up the Nile, as well as supplying a less than common photograph.
The boat looks huge for a river boat, emphasised by the ornate, arched entrance. It looks like a modern office block when seen against this b/g of old Esne.
