Photographer's Note
When visiting some of the tribal village, the older kids will come around to tourist wanting to pose for pictures, because it is now a business, we take their pictures and pay them which is a really a fair deal, actually it is good deal for us. You don't have to guess if they mind or not, you just have to pay them for each picture and it was really a small amount of money for us. 25 cents. The problem become that they don't leave you alone, every time you pick up the camera, they run in front of you.
In this case I had to chase everyone else out, because I want to take a photo of this boy alone. He was so shy and smaller than others. He looks just sad, the face so dirty, and he has only one shoe. I just wanted to give him a couple of 25 cents that he so wanted and most of all I wanted to see a little happiness in him, maybe there is a little bit of it in the WS. He seem a bit more confident even with just one shoe, he looks more proud. The white paste is a face painting that is the tradition of the tribe.
The sharpness looks better in the beta version, why?

Hello Way,
Fine close portrait of this depressed little boy. I can imagine 25cts haven't made him happier.

Hello Way, what a sad looking boy but what a great portrait photo this does.
The white paste on his face in contrast to his skin and his eyes makes that you keep looking at him.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Way. I am trying to decipher what those eyes are telling us.I do not see sadness, I do not see envy, nor expectation.I see only the acceptance of his destiny and looking at your workshop, the land on which he stands would not generate dreams of fame and fortune. It is a stunning portrait in which his quiet spirit talks to us, Regards. Klaudio.

Hi Way,
I always find it difficult to give comments on portraits of people that I have no knowledge of. But this is nevertheless quite impressive with all brown tones and yellow and sand highlights. And the workshop is excellent on showing the surrounding environment and more of the style of this little guy.
About quality: Code of TE main site requests your browser to resize to max width of 790 pixels, and this resize from 800 of your image to 790 is rather disadvantageous to the quality. Quality degradation is worse with Internet Explorer than with Firefox.

Hi Way,
This is a very powerful image, a documentary worthy of the worlds finest magazines. Such a sense of dignity and indeed sadness on this young boys face, and you have captured it perfectly. Your note is an excellent company to the image, and the workshop is e perfect final view having read your note. Beautiful work and a fine pair of captures. Thanks for sharing this, a lesson in photography for me here.
Cheers

Hola Way
I solved in Nepal the problem choosing a boy to go with me and telling the other to leave because I have only a dollar for one of them
After watching the WS I believe the boy was proud to be the chosen one for the photo, he knows how to look in a serious way at the camera
Anyway ( another use of way) a good portrait preceded by an interesting note
Great work
Maria

Reading your notes and looking at this I cant stop smiling at it and bit sad though but, if you are marketing yourself as a portrait photographer, I would put this on the main page of your website! Fun, beautiful and really enchanting shot of a cheeky little serious character. Beautiful contrasty colours and very well posed but it's very very natural and your skill in managing the exposure is applauded. Brilliant, a perfect portrait capturing personality and the moment precisely - a happy ending shot....., Congrats and TFS

Hi Way
Wonderful portrait full of expression and technically perfect. I like the blurred background and the tight crop which allows the viewer to concentrate on the subject. Hi face paintings and the beads create a strong sense of place and break the otherwise almost monochromatic tones.
Thanks for sharing and for adding a workshop. How very kind of you to select the smallest and possibly poorest of the crowd!
Best wishes
Kasia

Hi Way,
Splendide portrait de cet enfant au regard captivant. En effet je le trouve triste moi aussi, superbe la pose dans le WS également. J'ai bien aimé la note aussi avec la scène où les enfants vous courent après alors que vous essayez d'en photographier un seul. :)
Très beau travail, comme d'habitude.
Amicalement,
Gigi

Ciao NBF
Such a beautiful, sad and proud little warrior. I love how he stands so defiantly with his one shoe in the WS. In fact, I think I love that one even more than I do this superb "in your face" portrait. The sharpness is certainly better in the Beta version, something I've noticed with a lot of Craig's shots too. I can't explain it. Stunning colours and chromatic rendering.
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day

At the outset, I wish you & your loved ones a fine 2015!
The picture's title is understood when we see the WS! What a poignant portrait this is. Money & photographers...like many places the locals have learnt the tricks to earn money now

Hello Way,
A good portrait with excellent testural and tonal details in his face, and the white face paint markings enhance the graphic effect against his dark skin. Wonderful use of a shallow dof with superb facial sharpness. The 3 yellow bead necklaces add a welcome splash of color. Effective tight framing and tfs!
