Photographer's Note

Another shot of the Djemaa el Fna taken at sunset, but it was a rainy afternoon, no sun but the sky is glowing with the sunset colors. In order to get this POV, you have to pay for a couple of drinks to go up on one of the balcony of a restaurant. I was here just a few weeks after the bombing on one of the restuarant in the square, so there is some concerns, but I guess there is potential danger everywhere we go. I wouldn't be travelling if I was worry all the times.

The main square in the medina of Marrakesh, Djemaa el Fna is busy with lot of things going on all day.
Musicians, dancers, story-tellers, snake charmers, water sellers in their colourful costumes. It is a fun place to walk around any time of day, but night time is much more lively and a wonderful place to try out the local food from different stalls. I started out with refreshing fresh squeezed orange juice, best is to ask for no ice, you get 100 percent juice and less water down, and if you like snail, it would served as a good appetizer. Every stalls will want to pull you in to eat at their palce. I looked to see where the most local people eat, and I ate there and it was a wonderful meal, very tasty and cheap.

Hello Way - I like the broad view you have captured here, the FG space is nicely populated by groups of figures all busy about their business. This open area balances well with the sky while the MG is filled with detail, you manage to convey a feel of 'airiness' to to busy scene. I find the light and warm colours very attractive, nice little reflection on the wet ground too. Lovely work. Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Way,
a really different and the same time fascinating POV from the famous open air market of Marrakech, with the sunset colours to make the image so beautiful and unique.The main square is covered with a lot of people and visitors,with the shops and the lot of attractions to take place almost all over the day and night in it, making the main place of interest of the city.

Hello Way,

It is remembering one of your previous post on PF. But this time the tagman put your name on the wall and not on the ground. When I was there in January, I do not remember to have see this advise, but it was at night ;-)
I like the mood shared by this view and the special rendering in the sky going from yellow to blue.

a very nice POV in which we see what the visitors do not see. The image reminds me of a painting. It is very well composed – and the light and the colors are spectacular. But what I like most, is your signature; it reveals a very nice sense of humor!

What a magical place Marrakech and your description of the food you ate is making my mouth water. You've brought us a very dynamic scene that represents beautifully the chaos, the movement and the exotic nature of daily life. Eating where the locals do - often at night markets - is one of my favourite things about travelling, and no doubt it is yours too. Superb colours, you managed the sky wonderfully and I like the effect of the wide-angle lens on the scene. Fantastic shot.

Hello Way,
I know this is one of the most famous places in the world of "travellers", but to me it looks to big to be cosy. I think I would prefer the narrow lanes of Hanoi or Cairo. But the light and subdued colours of this view would be hard to beat anywhere. The persons, alone or in small groups, that half fill the open space, create a pattern that would be constantly changing, constantly fascinating.

Spectacular light, sunshine and thick clouds seem to have a fight in the sky. This viewpoint shows well the transition from wide open space to a crowded bazaar. I also like reflections on the wet terrain.

In any case the place is a myth to me. And somehow you manage in that photo to encapture this myth in colour and light, point of view and expressive stances of people. The figures, the scenery... What can be said? everything is somehow blended and translated into pure feeling.

A good high pov overlooking the market square. I like the warm, earthy colors & repetition of the people. Well composed using the rule of thirds with excellent sharpness. Good warm cold color contrasts between the orange sunset skies at left & the blue grey sky at right. Tfs!

The light is sublime & captured masterfully! They say Light is the most critical element in photography, but one needs expertise to capture it most effectively! You've done so here, with the light pattern changing across the sky from glowing to pastel...the scene is bathed in wonderful low light, signifying the dusk hours. Beautiful!
