Photographer's Note

After seeing Jerzy's photos from his recent trip to Morocco, I decided to revisit my archives and dig out this old shot.
I took it on my first (and so far only) trip to Morocco back in 1993, and it shows the view from the window of one of the watchtowers above the ramparts, looking towards the citadel and port in the distance.
The reference to the Jimi Hendrix song (I know Bob Dylan wrote it, but I prefer the Hendrix version) in the title is quite apt, as Essaouira is the place that contains the castle from Jimi Hendrix's song "Castles in the Sand", or so the story goes. The fact is that he wrote the song two years before visiting the place - who knows, maybe a photo of the place had inspired him.
The castle is a tumbledown structure down on the beach, being eroded slowly by the sea. I've got a photo of it somewhere - I'll have to dig it out...
