Photographer's Note
4 children posing in front of an old caterpillar machinery in a the fromer Monte cafe coffe plantation.
Sao Tome is an island in the gulf of Guinea and a former portugese colony. It used to be the first cacao producer in the world when a revolution broke out in the 70ies and the the portugese were ousted (the system was based on a kind of modern slavery).
What followed was a terrible dictature until the late 80ies.
Nowadays, Sao Tome is a rather peacefull but very poor country (even if oil drilling is starting), with hundreds of ruined plantations and destroyed communications. But the people are really great and there are barely no tourists despite the many wonderful things to see.

Nice composition here. I like the contrast between the smiles and the innocence of these happy children and the tank in the background, reminding of war and cruelty.
Good colours and perspectrive.
Well done!

Bravo Olivier !
Image douce et forte à la fois. L'amitié entre copains,la curiosité et la joie de vivre des enfants est bien palpable.
Et ce malgré un environnement hostile et pas vraiment idéal pour eux.
Amitiés,
Robert

Very nice photo, although not a dificult one there...They will start to dance at camera sight, I've watch it before.
One small correction, due to some misunderstandings on comments: The veicule to the rear of the kids is NOT a war tank, but a heavy transformed tractor brought in by east cooperation for soil mobilization purposes. It failed due to the very fine structure of the soil and heavy rain fall at the south part of the island, and it is stucked since.

bonsoir
merci
Pascal
