Photographer's Note

As everybody knows, JOHNNY CLEGG, the “Zoulou Blanc” sadly died 4 days ago in Johannesburgh.
To pay him a tribute, I went to look in my pictures from our South African trip in November 2015.
I chose this one which I took on the boat that was bringing us back to Cape Town from Robben Island, the famous place where Nelson Mandela was kept for 18 of his 27 years imprisonment until 1990. (Robben Island 1964-1982 )
In 1987, Johnny Clegg had composed the famous song “Asimbonanga” about the infamous imprisonment of Mandela in Robben Island.
The song was prohibited by the Apartheid regime, but won universal fame outside South Africa.
It definitely played its part in the liberation of the famous man and the ending of the Apartheid regime.
To come back to my picture : While we were there in 2015, 10 years after Mandela’s departure from the presidence, we realised there was still a lot to do about the position of the black population in South Africa, and their interaction with the whites.

So, I loved this scene between the 2 children who of course don’t see any diffrence in the colour of the skin. They spent a lot of time running playfully together along the central alleyway of the ship.

WS2 Another view of the 2 children running.
WS1 The little boy in Robben island.
