Sailing on the Indian Ocean, a photo from Zanzibar, East

Photographer's Note

Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania. It is composed of the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 kilometres off the coast of the mainland, and consists of many small islands and two large ones: Unguja (the main island, referred to informally as Zanzibar) and Pemba Island. The capital is Zanzibar City, located on the island of Unguja.
With my son and granddaughter, I went for the two snorkelling trips. I love snorkelling, although I am not a good swimmer. To feel safer, I swam in the jacket. I bought the waterproof Nikon camera, but it was too difficult for me to take underwater pictures.
The reef is nice but it is nothing compared to the Red Sea. On the trip from Fumba, we went by a traditional sailboat. It was a wonderful experience.

Hi Malgo!
This is a very interesting double portrait.
One guy looking at you and the other looking foreward.It is an excellent exposure,well composed with this pole and the ropes.

Hello Malgo,
This is a very good composition and it's very well taken. Good exposure, fine colours. It has a lot of vigour, like an heroic sculpture. The men are bending to the left side, holding on to the wooden mast leaning to the right. The mast itself is worth a good look with the well worn wood and the ropes tied to it. It's easily your best photo so far from Zanzibar.

Hello Malgo,

The boat does like good and it must have been a thrilling experience to sail in it but this close-up of the sailors, so much enjoying their job, and the strong details of the mast and ropes, makes a much more personal and interesting shot.

One of my favorites you have taken. A wonderful candid shot. The crew member in the white shirt has peace and comfort written all over his face. Like he was made to be a sailor. A perfect POV. Maybe you should do more street Photography. You capture life well. nice capture.

Hi Malgo, nice work, brings back happy memories of sailing from Lamu to Mombasa over three days in a larger version of this boat. No motor, no radio, no safety equipment. Only Ugali and dried fish to eat. Just me and the crew of half a dozen Kenyans. What was I thinking! Great memories, so thanks. Cheers, Steve

Wonderful portrait of these sailors. And it is great that you had a change for a trip like this, especially in a traditional way. I always want to go to some kind of cruise on my travels, no matter whether it's sea lake or river. Exposure is a bit darkish.

A wonderful portrait of these two sailors who were leading you, a sturdy pole to hold the sail of those curious boats, which to me seem very weak in the middle of the sea, with my fear I would not dare to sail in them.
