The Chinese New Year celebration is not only for the living family members but also the ancestors. On the eve of the Chinese New Year most Chinese pay homage to their ancestors by visiting their graves.

In Malaysia there are Chinese cemeteries, mostly on hills, and urns in Thai temples or Wat like the one in the picture in Alor Star. First the families cook at home the favorite food of the deceased and take it to the Wat, where they symbolically share a meal with them. They also pay respect to them as seen in the picture and visit their final resting place. Traditionally the food offered to the ancestors finally is part of their family reunion dinner at the eve of New Year.

Chinese are very superstitious, so what ever is round and in all kinds of hues of red or yellow will bring them luck and success. That's the reason why oranges, respectively mandarins are offered to the ancestors as well.

An another colured view of this celebration. Image full of life, of vived colours, of various details very well collected. I like the construction of the image with a FG which give depht and a prospect to the nice edifice in the BG.

Olá Urs, very good framing once again. Everything in the scene starts with this squatted man on the corner. Excellent work with the light too. I enjoy seeing every detail both in front and background with the temple. It seems oranges are the favorite fruit of the ancestors...

The situation is well framed with good details, and the contrasty situation is well exposed...
But you forgot to tell what the oranges are for..!

You sure knows a lot about the traditional asian practices. The image is so well captured with colorful oranges making excellent fg subject. The temple in the background and activities around it are so well captured. Nice shot for the festive season and thanks for sharing.

Hi Urs,
you really know your work very well. I am truly amazed by the variety of compositions and surprising perspectives you have. You seem to show a similar place in few shots but the POV is changing and the whole scene arrangemment, and placement of people in the scene.
