Photographer's Note
Chuquicamata, in the Atacama desert, Chile.
The Atacama desert is one of the dryiest and inhospitable places in the world, but it also contain the biggest and purest copper accumulation in the world.
This open air mine is the biggest in the world : the mine is 850meters deep !
The trucks you see are quite huge (there is a normal car on the picture, can you find it ?), and it is therefore difficult to understand the true scale of this mine.
A city has grown nearby, and it was visited 50 years ago by Che Guevara during his "viajar a motocycleta".
Very few tourists stop to visit the mine, they go directly to San Pedro. But this experience is unique.

What a barren landscape. Dust as far as the eye can see, and no green of foliage. The photo has a lot of depth though and...yes, I found the car. It helps to measure the immensity of this copper mine.

Minas a céu aberto, apesar da degradação ambiental, sempre apresentam um belo visual.
