Photographer's Note

Dresden Hauptbahnhof - Dresden's main railway station, one of the largest railway stations in Germany. It handles about 50,000 passengers per day.

The first railway line from Leipzig to Dresden was opened in 1839.
In the following decades more railways were built, increasing the destinations that could be reached from Dresden, traffic grew enormously. In 1848 a larger station was built (Bohemian station) and in 1898 the station building in the present shape replaced the old railway Bohemian station.
It is an unique structure: the combination of a station building on an island between the tracks and a terminal station on two different levels.
I my photo you can see the terminal (platforms 4-9) and at 4.5 m above them, the other platforms are located on both sides of the central hall.
