Photographer's Note
View of the town Gniew with the Teutonic Castle.
The town is situated in northern Poland where the Knights of the Teutonic Order built more than 50 fortresses.
The castle in Gniew was built as a fortress on the Vistula River. The Order was sent there in 1225 by the Pope to convert the local pagan population into Christianity. In 1226 the Order was given land from Polish Duke Konrad of Masovia, with an aim to protect Poland against the attacks of pagan Prussians.
The Teutonic Order grew quickly in power, built many castles that were situated of the distance of about 30 km away from each other. This is the distance that needs a horseman in one day.
One of the castles is located in the town of Gniew, on the Vistula River. It was built after 1290.
Wladyslaw Jagiello, Polish king, defeated the Teutonic Knights in 1410, the castle Gniew was occupied by the Polish army and rebuilt after the war.
Today, the castle held tournaments, artistic blacksmithing demonstrations, camps and other events.

Czesc Ryszard,
piekna panorama. Nie slyszalem nigdy chyba o tym miescie ale bardzo podoba mi sie ten zamek i chetnie bym to miejsce kiedys odwiedzil. Oprocz zamku katedra dodaje jeszcze jednej ciekawej sylwetki.
Wszystko tak jak lubie :)
