Gozo (/ˈɡoʊ.zoʊ/; Maltese: Għawdex, pronounced [ˈaˤːw.dɛʃ],formerly Gaulos, Γαύλος in Ancient Greek) is an island of the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. The island is part of Malta. After the island of Malta itself, it is the second-largest island in the archipelago. Compared to its southeastern neighbour, Gozo is more rural and known for its scenic hills, which are featured on its coat of arms.

The island of Gozo has long been associated with Ogygia, the island home of the nymph Calypso in Homer's Odyssey. In that story, Calypso, possessed of great supernatural powers, and in love with Odysseus, holds him captive for a number of years, until finally releasing him to continue his journey home.[6]

As of March 2015, the island has a population of around 37,342 (out of Malta's total 475,000), and its inhabitants are known as Gozitans (Maltese: Għawdxin). It is rich in historic locations such as the Ġgantija temples, which, along with the other Megalithic Temples of Malta, are among the world's oldest free-standing structures.

The island is rural in character and, compared to the main island Malta, less developed. It was known for the Azure Window, a natural limestone arch that was a remarkable geological feature, until its collapse in 2017.
The island has other notable natural features, including the Inland Sea and Wied il-Mielaħ Window. There are many beaches on the island, as well as seaside resorts that are popular with both locals and tourists, the most popular being Marsalforn and Xlendi.
Gozo is considered one of the top diving destinations in the Mediterranean and a centre for water sports.

Hello Costantino.
A fine view from the port of Gozo island. Maybe this was taken from the ferry from Malta main island. There is a great variety of older and newer buildings, and the church is well placed on top of the hill. Colours, light and sharpness are all excellent.

Hello Costantino,
I believe this is the view you have upon arriving by boat from Malta.
The church crowns beautifully the hill.
It's a steep climb from the harbour to the top of the hill.
I'm not so convinced by the modern buildings on the right but I guess that the people who live there must have a great view.
The many boats create a very picturesque foreground.

You have written a fascinating and informative note and given us a beautiful photograph to admire!

This is a beautiful panoramic view, the foreground occupied by many colourful boats in the deep blue water while older buildings on the left running up from the harbour to the magnificent cathedral on the hill contrast with the modern buildings on the skyline on the right.

Glorious warm light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

Hello Dear Constantino,

What a fine, comprehensive view you have given us!
The marina is is busy but organised and we can appreciate the difference between the old, classical buildings and the more modern ones, perhaps for tourists.
The cathedral is strongly placed and stands out against the skyline.
I remember having to borrow a scarf, to cover my head, before I was allowed to explore it, when we visited Gozo.
