A day of island walk, a photo from Sabah, East

Photographer's Note

Or also title it as 'Lost Horizon' after the movie? On this day of walking around this western side of Maiga island, it was mostly cloudy and a little hazy sky but the most intriquing part of this scene is the blending of the sky and the sea to make the horizon hardly visible. If I were back and to try again, perhaps I would experiment with high f/stop and tripod.

At this moment, my team mates Hoe was busy enjoying himself with Sea Bajau boy on the paddle boat, while Alfred was hunting for subject. A group of Sea Bajau children were around to keep company. The huts can be readily seen to be very simple and located in among the coconut palms. No they are not worried about the coconuts falling down, are they?

We were here for only a few short hours and time did not permit water activities here for us. Taking a walk around the island already took up more than 1 hour time. Thank you for viewing. Cheers, bill

Excellent soft colours you have here. And, as you said, the soft transition from the water to the sky is very nice. It is very interesting to see how the coconut trees end up falling on the beach creating natural barriers to retain the sand. It seems to be the perfect place for some relaxing time and good photo opportunities too. Well done.

I like very much this point of view showing the huts under the coconuts trees,and near the sea!And I like the activity raound the small and nice boat!Yes,it's difficult to see the line separating the sky from the sea,but this is something I like very much,that gives a very soft atmosphere!So,son't have regret for your adjustements,for me this is perfect!You will see later that I have a few pictures like this,and hope that you will like!

I saw the polished pale blue sky and I knew it must be your photo :) you're right, "lazy" is the best way to describe this scene, and I guess that's what I like about this photo most - how relaxed it feels. the palm trees add an interesting diagonal line, and I like a lot how right side of the image create a darker triangle against the light sky. very nice work, my compliments.

Hi Bill,

The curve of the palm trees is an asset to the composition. The point of view is leading our eyes toward infinity(the sea meeting the sky). The presence of the poeple has an effect of scale. The colors are enhanced by the soft light. Have a nice day.

This is a very peaceful tropical landscape with the lovely palms looming over the tradditional thached homes but what I find the most compelling is the human gathering on the beach that gives this image such a warm soothing appeal.

This lovely place with its authentic stilt huts feels very peaceful, and it doesn't looks like a tourist destination! A good shooting angle which created a great perspective along the palm trees. Somehow, it gives me the impression to look at a painting ;)
