Returning to Ithaca

THUS did he speak, and they all held their peace throughout the covered cloister, enthralled by the charm of his story, till presently Alcinous began to speak. Olá Danos, you found a good note for this image of returning. The view and vegetation in FG reminds me of parts of the portuguese coast around Lisbon. Gorgeous warm tones on top and excellent placement of the boats passing by in speed. I like the 'agafes' leaning over the sea as well. Beautiful.

this picture should be enclosed to the school-books used for teaching the ancient literature - though I imagined similar pictures when learned about the return of Odysseus. Perhaps without motor boats ...
I am sure the intellectual performance of the ancient Greeks can not and will not be explained, it will always be a unique miracle no to be solved. But knowing the environment they lived in, experiencing the plays of the nature there we can at least share their sensations, thanks also to your photo.

An image full of pathos and melancholy. There is the sense of the distance (the island in the background), the mistery of the land in the dark in the foreground, and the sense of movement given by the boats. Beautiful colours: one cannot see the sun yet one can feel it!

La mer fait partie de l'histoire et de l'épopée grecque. Cette photo nous rappelle les aventures d'Ulysse pendant son retour de la guerre de Troie. J'aime les couleurs et la paix qui se dégage de cette vue.

Hi Danos, The pale orange sky softens the whole picture, where as in contrast the speed boats add some great action, the photo is beautifully composed with the wake of the boats spreading out behind them & the horizon is nicely broken up by the land mass, overall a very good shot, kind regards Wilson.

Συγχαρητήρια! Συγχαρητήρια! Συγχαρητήρια!!! Καλησπέρα Δάνο. 'Ομορφα χρώματα, καταπληκτική ατμόσφαιρα, ειδυλλιακή στιγμή. Ξυπνά σε όλους εμάς τον πόθο και την ανάγκη να βρούμε τη δική μας Ιθάκη. Εξαιρετικό το απόσπασμα από την Οδύσσεια. Η απόδοση στα νεοελληνικά ίσως ήταν απαραίτητη για τους αδαείς νεοέλληνες. Και πάλι συγχαρητήρια!!!

Γειά σου Danos,
I guess that the placement of the dark piece of coast diagonally on the lower part, balanced by the land across the water, the presence of the flowers, the picturesque silhouettes of those plants and the warm colours of sunset would be enough to guarantee a great photo, but those boast and their tracks surely make the image much more catchy.
The note is very appropriate to the mood of the photo.

The point of view leads our eyes toward the horizon which is giving depth to the photo. The presence of the boats has an effect of scale. The sunset is giving differentints of range colors to the sky and is sending the rays of the sun to enhance the colors of the sea. have a nice day.

οι δυό βάρκες έτσι όπως διασχίζουν την θαλάσσια περιχή κάτω από τον βράχο του Σουνίου το ηλιοβασίλεμα είναι πράγματι εντυπωσικές.Η γαλήνη και η ηρεμία της περιοχής διαταράσσεται μόνο από την ήχο που κάνουν οι δυό εξωλέμβιες.
