Hi Figen,

I do really like the portrait. Nicely off center, pleasant shallowness with f/1.8, sharpness okay and whole black and white conversion nicely heavy on the contrast.

The only problem I have is with the title. Why such a title when you do not explain in the note about her hopeless disfortune? Why hopeless? I work for 5 years in international development and feel that this is not at all hopeless. I have seen hopeless and know what it looks like. Not like this.
But perhaps there is something else behind that title. Then share it with us!

hopeless doesnt become her. very little and has many beautiful things to live in her life.

great shot. The out of focus part creates depthness well. I also like your BW selection.

In my opinion, the title doesn't fit to the picture ... but let's leave it.

"hopeless" you say? no, my friend - there is such a strenghth proliferating from this youth... there is so much firm pose in the person...

i'd rather say - "power of sight"...

Merhaba Figen Hanım,
Biraz gecikmeyle de olsa TE'ye hoşgeldiniz diyeyim, birbirinden güzel 3 portreyle başlangıç yapmışsınız. Hepsi ayrı güzel, ama s&b hayranlığım beni bu kareye çekti.
Grenli, karanlık, hafif kahverengi tonlu s&bınız harika olmuş.
Böyle güzel bir yüze "hopeless" adını koymazdım ama ben olsam, öyle olsa bile öyle olmayı hak etmiyor çünkü...

One of the first thing I was always doing when I was active in TE was to go and check the first photos posted by a photographer. Sometimes, it was surprising. In your case, the first photo is a preview of what will come next. You take photos of children. And, though it is "easier" to do take their photos - children are easier to approach - it is more difficult to take "good" photos of children. Most of the time, you achieve to avoid the clichés. Here is a good example, though not your best. There is something in those eyes who's looking straight in your face, a "Mona Lisa" kind of smile, that makes it good in my opinion.
One lecturer at our local photo club said that the background is of the utmost importance. Here, it is indeed great.
Technically, it is excellent as well. I might only try to darken a bit the wall over the shoulder on the right. There is a strange artifact there.
