Hollywood of Romania, a photo from Brasov, East

Photographer's Note

They don't necessarily make tons of movies, but for some reason there was a huge sign in real Hollywood style that met us in Brașov. It's visible at quite a distance, just like the real Hollywood sign. This already tells us that Brașov is a hilly city. And maybe the Hollywood sign explains itself if I say that the city lies within the borders of Transylvania?

Romania consists of 4 historical regions. Moldova, Wallachia, Dobrogea and Transylvania. The latter is known worldwide as the home of Vlad Tepes, or Dracula. He is the origin of several Hollywood movies and is often associated with Brașov, so maybe we can conclude that the city deserves the title Hollywood of Romania. I'd say so.

But I would also call it Bergen of Romania because of the hills and the intimate square in the center. This creates a nice small town feeling although the city has as much as 230,000 inhabitants. It has a long history which is clearly visible during a walk through the center. It was founded as early as 1234. While most people live on the fields below, the city center is packed between two hills. More Brașov photos to come...

There is a sign like this also in Rasnov, at the castle (near Brasov). Anyway, the city is great during the summer days, one of my favourites in Romania.

Hi Fredrik,

Your note is very funny, probably between Hollywood and Brasov doesn't exists too much similar things, but people that are doing tourism business in Brasov city are using some American/Hollywood tactics in order to attract people here.
For instance they say that there is a castle of Vlad Tepes/Dracula in the nearby of Brasov (the Bran Castle) but, actually, that castle never belonged to him. :-)
