Photographer's Note

If not for the two small boats with locale villagers on them, it's hard to tell this is actually of Tonlé Sap in Cambodia, it could as well be somewhere in the Caribbean. The Large boat is used for hosting dinner cruise around the lake for tourists group. Fortunately it was not in operation the day I was here, so it was nice and quiet on the Lake. The little boats are local villagers trying to sell tourist drinks and souvenirs. We were warned not to buy things or give money to them especially to children. The local adults know that if they bring their children with them and trying to look really sad and poor, we are more likely to buy or give them money. Instead of sending their children to school, they drag the children along to make money. They make their children come up to you and beg you to buy something from them, “Please, Sir” That pleading sound of a poor child in dirty clothes, it stirred a soft spot in your heart and you feel like you have to buy something from them. It’s hard not to feel sympathetic.

I came out here at sunset hoping to catch them doing night fishing. There was none, but many boats with people trying to sell you things. Regardless, it’s still a very peaceful and tranquil setting for a nice sunset.
