Panorama Ridge View, a photo from British Columbia, Western

Photographer's Note

This was taken recently on my hiking trip up Panorama Ridge near Whistler, BC. I was not expecting it to be as beautiful as it was. Everywhere I looked there were stunning mountain views. It was probably one of the prettiest hikes I have ever been on! Here is one of the many photos I took. Basically no photoshopping here :)

Hello Tosca,

This is indeed beautiful.
Was it the area that hosted the Winter Olympics?

Your viewpoint is well chosen with a pleasing left to right movement across the frame. (I think we like it to be so, because we read in that direction!) The lake and the trees give way gradually to the grey, snow topped mountains.
It is only when you explore the sky, and see the very distany mountains, that you realise what a fine sense of depth has been achieved.

hi tosca,
what incredible scenery. the mountains are a wonderful shape, full of character. the trees in the foreground help provide depth. i love the line of the lake from the left corner leading into the picture. the mountain peaks create a fantastic focal point. the distant mountains are beautiful, especially with the snow covered caps. and above all this, the sky is superb. an excellent composition.

but in the end the views were pretty awesome weren't they!

in your shot its really attractive how even the dead space to the top right has some magical wispy clouds.
all areas of the frame are filled up nicely.

Outstanding landscape, Tosca - the detail is so clear even far back in the shot I was going to guess this was a stitch of some kind. The ice, snow and rock on the mountain faces are amazing, almost oil-painting quality; I love how you've framed it, sloping down to the left toward the crystal water. Beautiful - hopefully we get to see more from this hike!

Wow, what a great place for a hike. This is so beautiful. The blue lake, the snowcapped mountains, the forest, a clear blue sky with some nice clouds in it, what more does a photographing hiker wants.
Superb scene and good in-camara execution with no need to alter anything in PS.

this type of view...... is what I like best...... and on the day the sky was cooperating nicely.
However..... the photo does appear to be taken from a low altitude.... how high is the ridge ?????
not every photo need photoshop..... however a lot of people will disagree with that

the scenery is breathtaking!Mountains,lakes,covered with snow slopes-fabulous nature.The POV is excellent.It provides us with superb view of the whole area.And even these cloud formations are so unique and contribute to the succsess of your composition.
Superb clarity,depth and contrast.
You were able to convey perfectly how beautiful Canadian nature really is.

What a beautiful scenery. Very well taken from a good viewpoint on a ridge. I like how we can se different layers of the landscape here as the upper parts seems to be above the timberline. This area must be ideal for hiking. Beautiful work:) TFS. Enjoy your weekend.

Wow! What a sight ! This is an absolute delight to look at. A really gorgeous view of these mountains which you share with us here through this beautiful composition. The sun's illumination reveals the textures of the mountain and the lovely wispy clouds in that pure blue sky. All this combines to create a wonderful mountainscape. Thanks for sharing this piece of untouched, unpolluted and free from population land.

What a stunning mountain scene. A really fine compostion.I love way you make use of the lines and shapes of the landscape. The depth is excellent because you included the boulder in the foreground and the mountains far away. The sharpness is pefect and the colours are beautiful and looks very natural. Hi Tosca,

I love this image! The colors look just perfect, with the right saturation and the right contrast between the gray of the mountains, the green of the trees and the blue of the sky. Also, the contrast in the sky itself created by those soft clouds complete a perfect image!
