Photographer's Note
Matobos National Park is one of the most beautiful places that I have travelled to in Southern Africa. It is the place where Cecil Rhodes demanded to be burried in the granite rock. This picture was taken from his grave site and standing there looking out at the magnificent scenery you can truly understand why Cecil Rhodes names this particular place "God's View".
The picture was taken on a cloudy and rainy day but that only added to the extraordinary colours of our surroundings.
Matobos is also the place where you will find numerous rock formations, bushman paintings as well as do a "walk with rhinos" where you really get up close and personal with the enormous creatures. A completely unique experience!
About Matobos - from Wikipedia:
The Matobo National Park forms the core of the Matobo or Matopos Hills, an area of granite kopjes and wooded valleys commencing some 35 kilometres south of Bulawayo, southern Zimbabwe. The Hills were formed over 2000 million years ago with granite being forced to the surface, this has eroded to produce smooth "whaleback dwalas" and broken kopjes, strewn with boulders and interspersed with thickets of vegetation. Mzilikazi, founder of the Ndebele nation, gave the area its name, meaning 'Bald Heads'.
The Hills cover an area of about 3100 kmē, of which 424 kmē is National Park, the remainder being largely communal land and a small proportion of commercial farmland. The park covers some beautiful scenery including some spectacular balancing rocks and impressive views along the Thuli, Mtshelele, Maleme and Mpopoma river valleys. Part of the national park is set aside as a 100 kmē game park, which has been stocked with game including black and white rhinoceros. The highest point in the hills is the promontory named Gulati (1549 m) just outside the north-eastern corner of the park.

Hello Maria,
I know this location well, having spent my entire childhood in Zimbabawe. I have visited the Matopos many times, as well as Rhodes grave, and it certainly is a magical place. You've managed to depict the scenery extremely well, with the textured, coloured granite boulders in the foreground providing a "gate" into the entire view. Very well done.
Cheers Grant

Very dramatic scenery which you have captured so well. Good focusing so the foreground rocks and the background are perfectly sharp.

No doubt this is an extraordinary view. So, you went around Zimbabwe. How did you travel? By car? We only crossed the border at Victoria Falls to go one afternoon for an elephant back ride. We stayed for three days in the Zambian side of the falls. It is a magic place.
The area of your picture looks very nice and the colours on the granite boulders are superb.

Maria,
This reminds me very much of landscapes I've seen in Australia, where similar granite boulders encrusted with red lichens can also be found. I'm not familair with this area you've shown here, but it does indeed look to be a most captivating landscape - one which may well tempt even god to linger for a moment or two before moving on.
My regards
Colin

Hello Maria,it was your PoV which caught my eye, peeping between the two enormous boulders. The sharp details and colours are very attractive.
You give us a view of some very wild scenery.I like the vertical presentation too.
Interesting notes.
