Photographer's Note
The Temple of Garni is the only standing Greco-Roman colonnaded building in Armenia and the former Soviet Union. Built in the Ionic order in the village of Garni, Armenia, it is the best-known structure and symbol of pre-Christian Armenia.
The structure was probably built by king Tiridates I in the first century AD as a temple to the sun god Mihr. After Armenia's conversion to Christianity in the early fourth century, it was converted into a royal summer house of Khosrovidukht, the sister of Tiridates III. According to some scholars it was not a temple but a tomb and thus survived the destruction of pagan structures. It collapsed in a 1679 earthquake. Renewed interest in the 19th century led to excavations at the site in early and mid-20th century, and its eventual reconstruction between 1969 and 1975, using the anastylosis method. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Armenia and the central shrine of Armenian neopaganism.

Hi Piotr,
Wow, I knew the ancient Greeks were in much of Turkey, but was not aware they also made it east to present day Armenia. Better still the temple has been preserved or reconstructed and still appears in reasonably good shape. The people add scale. Tfs!

Hi Piotr
A temple in amazing looking good condition. Spectacular setting but it would have been better if the temple was a bit brighter. I did a workshop to bring out the temple a bit more.
cheers

cześć Piotrze, Śliczna mała świątynia i jak dobrze zachowana. Przyjemna kompozycja, dobra ostrość i kolory.
Mam trochę nowych zdjęć, ale pewnie trzeba będzie sięgnąć do archiwum, bo widoków na podróże teraz nie widać. Jestem już z powrotem w domu całkiem niespodziewanie.
Pozdrawiam

Piotr, excellent contribution to Te. Pictures of Armenia are rare on the forum. This Greek-Roman temple with columns appears majestically against a backdrop of arid hills. The monument attracts groups of visitors. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hello Piotr,
It's not the first photo on TE of this temple, but it is certainly one of the best. You found a good angle and enough people to brighten and enliven the view. I suppose the technique used for the restorations brought it back to what it originally looked like. The photo is very good as it is, but Ian also had a good point with his WS.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Piotr
Love how they blend together in almost the same earthy tone between the ancient temple and the rugged looking hilly background. The visitors really show how huge the structure is. Speck of red and patch of green give nice lift. Excellent shot
Best regards

Hello Piotr,
What a wonderful, small temple. The sunlight didn't come from the most favourable angle, but you still managed to capture the ancient architecture clearly with lots of details. The mountains make an amazing backdrop also.

Hi Piotr
sometimes its all about the setting, and what a setting this is, it couldn't be more dramatic. Easy to like this one, how could we not. love the look of the Temple, almost having a Gothic Haunted type of atmosphere to it. awesome. cheers

Hello Piotr.
I had no news of the existence of this temple, nor had I seen any image before, which is why I was struck by this magnificent composition, with the beautiful temple standing and in the background the attractive mountain.
A magnificent color, which gives the image a lot of chromatic richness.
Well done. I like.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
