‘Bandar Seri Begawan - By boat to Kampong Ayer’

As mentioned before Kampong Ayer consists of two large parts.
The part that can be reached by a new bridge over the river (followed by a long wooden walkway) is presented in my previous pictures.
Here you have a view of the other and largest part of the water village.
It can be reached over land but with a very long detour and the bridge you can see here in the distance.
But the most easy way to go there is by boat.

In my main photo Bandar Seri Begawan and the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque are right behind me.
Boats to the water village can be taken from here.
The transfer by boat took me 1 Bruneian dollar (= 0.62 euro).
The Bruneian dollar has the same value as the Singapore dollar. Singapore banknotes are also used in Brunei, in addition to the small sultanate's own banknotes.

Once on the other side you can get almost everywhere via wooden walkways.

As an aside:
We’re having a strange summer in Belgium. The country is divided in two by a line that runs from southwest to northeast.
I live on this line and it dripped here all day.
It is dry to the left of that line.
To the right of it, it has been pouring almost non-stop for two days. Several rivers have burst their banks there due to the massive water supply.

In several places the streets have turned into rivers.
Many houses are under water. So far, nine people have drowned.

I just heard that in Liège, the fifth largest city in the country, the Meuse has overflowed its banks. The water level of the river is expected to rise another one and a half meters further.
Tourists and residents of downtown Liège are urged to leave the city. Those who cannot leave the city in time are strongly advised to get to safety on at least a first or second floor …
