‘Bandar Seri Begawan - Where once was a water village’

There also used to be a water village between the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the Brunei River. Gert saw it in 1976 and showed this photo, taken at the top of the minaret of the famous mosque:

Nowadays Kampong Ayer is limited to two parts on the other side of the river. No doubt these two parts have grown in the meantime.
I haven’t been able to find out when the water village that was built close to the mosque, was demolished.

Today a beautifully landscaped park and a small playground for children can be found on this site.
They offer good opportunities to take some pictures with the mosque in the background ... but in the meantime you’ve all understood that I would rather visit a water village :)

My photos were taken from atop a pedestrian bridge.
