Photographer's Note
‘Bandar Seri Begawan - Back from school in Kampong Ayer’
I regretted that I had so few pictures of the water village Kampong Ayer with residents on it.
Finally I found another one on my smartphone. I had already forgotten I still had a few pictures there.
The quality of my photos taken with smartphone is inadequate. Clearly a wrong purchase.
I don't remember why I didn’t use my camera to take a picture of this scene with the two girls.
Presumably you will prefer the photos in the WS. They show the water village seen from the quay in Bandar Seri Begawan.

Salut Paul,

It is always a puzzle to me how these people living on a wooden houses over water, Paul.
Your series about the stilts dwelling alaways an interesting subject to look at.
Nicely captured moment.
Have a nice friday,
Ike

Hello Paul
The catwalk above the water adds terrific linear perspective and lead in lines. Excellent sharpness and The 2 veiled girls provide scale. Tfs!

Hi Paul,
I am not sure if my comment will be appropriate but my first thought was that these are children dressed up as ghosts for the Halloween.
Nice to see some people among those particular houses, indeed the village looked as if abandoned.
Great reportage,
M

Dag Paul,
Groet Rob

Hello Paul,
I can't see that the quality of this would be remarkably lower than the photos from your proper camera. And compared with my scanned photos it's excellent. But in any case most important is what a photo shows, and I like this rather deep view of the jetty and the two traditionally dressed girls. To me it's a more interesting photo than those in the WS, even though the boats are very bright and eye-catching.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour Paul,

Goed foto werk, bedankt.
Prettig weekend,
John.

Hello Paul,
In this screen resolution it is acceptable in my opinion. Its not the pixels that count. Clearly, its a well-taken shot.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hallo Paul,

Hello Paul, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the quality of this picture.
An excellent point of view, with the walkway leading us to the heart of the scene.
The two little girls really do make the picture.
The light is managed beautifully.
The two workshop pictures add to our impression of this place.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Paul,
The colors in the WS photos are more agreeable. But I like the main entry better, there is something special about those two little girls in burkas.

Pozdrav.
Lep pogled i trenutak, dobar tekst ...
Dobar rad, lepa fotografija.
Zelim vam lep dan, sve najbolje za vikend.

Hello Paul,
This back from school scene ... could be taken in Malaysia.
Why am I saying that , because the schoolgirls' school uniforms are almost the same as the schoolgirls in M'sia.
And of course the similarity of the villages too.
This is not bad picture considering taken with smartphone. The colours of the wooden houses are a bit 'odd' but it has a lovely texture to the scene.
I think I would have taken with a smartphone ... a bit of discretion. It'll be OK if the parents were around the scene. That's how I see it in this circumstances.
I do like the boats - commuting to and fro in the river bringing the locals and tourists ( like you ). Its seems to me that there is only one company of this public transportation.
Thanks for sharing this 'familiar' scene of M'sia.

Hello paul,
I think you criticise yourself too severely; this is a charming photograph, with a perfectly acceptable quality. I think modern phones take good quality photographs and are so handy, to capture a rapidly changing scene, when a camera would need to be set up!
I love the b/g of the water village.
The composition, demonstrating linear perspective, with a fine focal point, is great.
I wonder if western children would be happy to wear such headgear ... well, yes if they were playacting; little girls pretending to be Mary, at Christmas.
The w/s are are colourful and reveal action from the boats.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Paul,
If I looked quickly at this photo, I could mistake these two schoolgirls as approaching ghosts! They are dressed exactly alike and are walking step in step together. I like the surrounding view of the water and houses, too. Take care!

Hello Paul.
A very correct photo with the mobile, which seen at this size are perfect.
Great perspective is given by this wooden walkway, which is like the street of these houses, the two girls with such "special" clothing put the perfect touch to the composition.
Great panoramas on the WS.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and magnificent composition; they are managed to perfection, in this beautiful image.
I like very much.
You have a good day. Very best regards.
Luis.

Actually... no, I prefer the main upload. The two traditionally-dressed girls make it truly special.
I sometimes take photos with a smartphone too, it's usually when it's quicker and my main camera is in my bag and the opportunity would be gone by the time I pull it out. Or when I want to hide the fact I'm photographing people so I pretend to be looking at the phone. In any case - don't forget to backup your smartphone photos! I made a mistake of considering them "inferior" and less worth the effort and lost some valuable memories!
I truly enjoyed looking at your photos and reading notes on Brunei, a country I've never been to. And comparing them to Gert's! :-)
Greetings from Schiphol Airport!
