‘Ta Prohm - Where nature joined ancient artworks’

Some more pictures of the Ta Prohm Temple in Angkor, very popular among visitors because of the views of trees growing out of the ruins.

A visit of Ta Prohm is an exceptional experience.
However, you must set your expectations correctly. Angkor is often - also in travel guides – presented as located in the jungle. Now, honestly, I haven't seen a jungle there. However, there was tropical forest all around.

I think a jungle is actually an impenetrable tropical forest where you need tools to work your way through.
Possibly the French who excavated the temples may have found a jungle there. They probably did.
But today in and around some temples only the largest trees and their roots are left in place. Smaller plants and the soil were removed from the ruins. The forest has been pushed back.

Don’t understand me wrong. I found the ruins with the remaining tree stumps and roots to be unique scenes. But you should not expect to see the ruins as they were found at the beginning of the last century.

Seeing photos of Angkor elicits sometimes comments as 'Nature is regaining its lost ground'.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Nature once regained ground temporarily. But in the end man pushed back nature.

Moreover, nature is losing ground in many places in the world. Just look at the great loss of forest every day in the Amazon region. Nature is all over the world under tremendous pressure from humans.
If ultimately too few natural areas remain, there is no longer any possibility of human existence …

Today four pictures in the WS.
