Photographer's Note
Before to be a gladiator, the dog family is so gentle.
looking at the poor little things, i would like to kiss them.
but they were born for fighting and came from America.
thinking about their future, I felt depressed and sad.
ps: there are something wrong with the quality of this shot,
for it was scanned through a photo, not film. also sorry for the technology.

Interesting to hear that these dogs came from America. The fact is that the quality of breeding on our continent is very poor, most poeple who breed these dogs don't have a clue what to do and produce animals that are mentally instable (and any good breeder would allow their dogs to be exported to China).
Few facts poeple don't know about these dogs, originally when dog fighting was so popular in England, these dogs were called nanny dogs, because of how good and gentle they were with children, any of the dogs showing aggression towards human would have been shot, there is a big difference between dog to dog aggression and dog to human aggression, those dog fighting dogs had to be human friendly, the handlers simply wouldn't put up with any aggression towards them.
They also don't make good guard dogs, they simply trust everyone. Ears are croped (this is now banned in many countries), so they wouldn't be torn apart in a fight.
Now come the "breeders" who want big and bad, mix all in one and sometimes create some real psycho dogs, those usually make a tragic story in the paper and give a bad name to thousands of others.
Still I believe your first image in the series was the best so far. I like this one for the fact that even behind the cage, you are showing their good nature, love towards their puppies, and how cute they are.

hello Mingfang. Another wonderful shot, your Gladiator series is coming out very well. It is sad to see the dogs like this. Your composition is very good, all these puppies and their mother... so stern and protective. good work.

Poor little doggies. Terrible fate. Your shot is very good Mingfang, a powerful b/w. I like that the bars are at an angle. Makes the scene so frought with tension...

Not as action packed as your 2 previous shots but still, or maybe more powerful? The technical issues aside, this photo hits us in the gut especially in the context of your 2 other shots.

Hi Mingfang,
Very heartbreaking to see how we treat these animals and in fact it is this kind of people, who use them to kill each other for their pleasure, who should be called "animals", not these sweet creatures.
I like the BW and I think you did a good job framing the shot.
Regards,
Skye
