Old Wuxi Grand Canal, a photo from Jiangsu, East

Photographer's Note

Another shot of the Wuxi old canals. I liked wandering around this part of the city in the early evening because it was more atmospheric than the modern city centre seen in the bg. I would make my way to the bus station by 9pm to catch the last bus to the Wuxi College. The smog has given the air a strange grey tint. The new Grand Canal is about 4 times wider and handles large freighters but is not as photogenic. The video underlines why I preferred this part of town.

Hello Chris,
A good mixture of old and new, haze and bright colours. We don't get very clear or close details of the architecture, but this photo is really all about colours, reflections and atmosphere, and as such it is very good.

the lights contrast the darkness so well, the water is so still, it's just got an awesome look and feel to it. great to have the tall buildings in the bg to finish it off

Hello Chris,

You have shared some excellent night shots from China, over the years, showing the most colourful lights and reflections!
The f/g is just beautiful! There is the right amount of shadow, as a canvas, and colourful lights as contrast.
The modern city acts as a backcloth but without the depth and intensity!

Hello Chris, this is a lovely night-time shot. The foreground buildings are in varying degrees of grey to black which makes the bright lights stand out even more.
The canal looks to have the surface of a mirror, quite silvery, and with those lovely reflections, excellent!

great angle here. The bridge makes the strongest point of the composition. The water surface so nicely decorates the foreground with nuemrous reflections. Lovely contrast of traditional lanterns and the modern structures at the back. Excellent night photo,
