Photographer's Note

inspired by some recent Xihu uploads, here's mine...

"A light boat with short oars- West Lake is good.
A gentle curve in the green water,
Fragrant grass along the dyke,
The faint sound of pipes and song follows me everywhere.

Without a wind, the water's surface lies smooth as glaze.
I don't notice boats passing,
Tiny movements start up ripples,
Startled birds rise from the sand and graze the bank in flight."

- Ouyang Xiu (1007-1072)

Xī Hú(Chinese: 西湖; literally "West Lake") is a famous fresh water lake located in the historic center of Hangzhou, in Zhejiang province of eastern China.

There are dozens of lakes called West Lake worldwide, but "West Lake" usually refers to the Hangzhou West Lake. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides, with an area of around 6.5 square kilometers located in the western area of Hangzhou City's historic center.

West Lake is not only famous for its picturesque landscape, it is also associated with many scholars, national heroes and revolutionary martyrs, thus embracing many aspects of Chinese culture.

Xī Hú is said to be the incarnation of Xi Shi, one of the Four Beauties of ancient China. Hence, since ancient times, Xī Hú was associated with a large number of romatic poets, profound philosophers, national heroes and heroines.

OUYANG XIU was a Chinese statesman, historian, essayist and poet of the Song Dynasty. His poems are generally relaxed, humorous and often self-deprecatory; he gave himself the title The Old Drunkard. His most famous work includes a series of ten poems entitled >B>West Lake is Good.
