Photographer's Note
Hongjiang in southern Hunan is an old stone town, which has been remarkably preserved. It has a long history as a Qing dynasty trading town, in later (and sadder) days it became a transportation hub for opium.
These days old Hongjiang makes up a largely deserted old center of the modern city which has been built around it, though a few thousand people still live in it.
Old Hongjiang is sometimes used as a film set and of course there are plans to put it on the tourist map.
But it's a long way still to go.
---
This picture shows a typical street in the old town and one of Hongjiang's remaining inhabitants. Most folks have left the old stone houses and are now living in more comfort...but nothing beats the atmosphere of the old town, though.

Dag Benny,

Dear Benny,
With the man on the stairs it becomes an excellent picture. The composition is good in itself, with the stair on the left and the rather empty wall on the right.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Benny,
This is a well composed photo with a good balance between the man and the red lantern and banner. It's a little bit tightly cropped on the right side but not really disturbing. The steps are graphically attractive.

Gert

Hi Benny
A wonderful artistic image depicting everyday life full of atmosphere, i love how the chap is placed at the third - being the important part of the comp and star of the show. Perfect with the flashes of red and blue amongst the greyish setting and the treatment works wonders here for it has given the image bags of atmosphere, helped by the strong composition and limited colour palette too. I feel there are unseen eyes watching,,,,.
Delightful first class capture. Congrats
Best regards

Hi Benny
This is a classic photo, a beautiful moment perfectly composed. The light looks like it solutions have been really difficult but you got it in an exceptional way. The burst of colour in the bottom right from the lantern and doorframe is a wonderful touch

Hello Ben,
Nice to see that something of the old China is still preserved. Lovely scene on the stairs. Excellent vertical composition, I like the red lamp on the left side and also inclusion of the man going down.

Hello Benny,
A fascinating note about this old central part of a town which around it has undergone development, expansion and development - and it is lovely to see this old part preserved, whether that be for its use as a film set or simply to preserve some elements of the past.
You have captured this scene perfectly and with perfect timing too, just as the old man passes down the upper part of this stairway beneath the old lamp while the colourful red features on the right balance him very nicely.
I love the play of light and shade here which you have captured so well, the colours are rich and vibrant and the details and sharpness are exquisite.
I love this one!
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello, Benny!
The view of these stairs leading to an unknown place in the photo is great, with a kind of mysterious atmosphere! The man is perfectly positioned in the image and the details are beautiful, captured with very nice colors and sharpness! Wonderful job!

i thought this was the cliched concept of partial desat, and i am so so happy it is not. a similar mood, i love the presence of the man with the his shirt open, probably to beat the heat. this could very well be the scene of an old chinese movie. love the red in there, the communist red, is it ? ;)
nice to see you bro...
