Nowhere does the magic of Georgia's past and its fight for the future merge better than in the Old City of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. Winding streets with gracefully sloping houses lead past old stone churches to shady squares and the ultra-modern Peace Bridge, spanning the Mtkvari River.

Relaxed cafes and bohemian bars coexist with trendy lounge clubs, carpet shops, new hostels and cute little hotels. The ancient silhouette of the Narikala fortress dominates everything.

The traditional wooden balconies are full of charm and are very characteristic of the city. You will see them in different colors, ornamented with beautiful lattices of geometric shapes. They are clustered especially in Old Tbilisi, in the houses that climb the slope of Mount Mtatsminda and under the ancient Narikala fortress. They are also seen very close to the old city wall and in the houses that practically hang over the Kurá river, near the Metehki church.

En ningún sitio se fusiona mejor la magia del pasado de Georgia con su lucha por el futuro, como en la Ciudad Vieja de Tiflis, la capital de Georgia. Calles sinuosas con casas graciosamente inclinadas conducen, pasando por antiguas iglesias de piedra, hasta plazas umbrías y el ultramoderno puente de la Paz, que salva el río Mtkvari.

Cafés de ambiente relajado y bares bohemios coexisten con lounge-clubs a la última, tiendas de alfombras, nuevos albergues y simpáticos hotelitos. La antiquísima silueta de la fortaleza de Narikala lo domina todo.

Los balcones tradicionales de madera están llenos de encanto y son muy característicos de la ciudad. Los verás de diferentes colores, ornamentados con bonitas celosías de formas geométricas. Se agrupan especialmente en la Vieja Tiflis, en las casas que trepan por la ladera del Monte Mtatsminda y bajo la antigua fortaleza Narikala. También se ven muy cerca de la antigua muralla de la ciudad y en las casas que prácticamente cuelgan sobre el río Kurá, cerca de la iglesia Metehki.

Hi Luis,a walk in the old Tbilisi is always interestign ,especially in a place like that, not a street for tourists and so more interesing to see the real face of georgian capital, very good capture and an impressive contrast between the modern cafe' under the old wooden houses in the WS,well done! Hello Luis,
This evokes memories from my days in Tbilisi among these typical buildings. Covered balconies, somewhat rough brick walls, wooden parts, plants growing on the walls etc. It's a nice view, with more modern details in the WS. Did you use a filter of some kind for the sky in the main photo? It's exactly the same tone in all angles, which is unusual.

muitos detalhes curiosos com tijolos tortuosamente alinhados, balcões de madeira fechados com tábuas tortas e até mesmo vestígios do corte do piso da rua para instalar algum cano. A vista do WS me pareceu mais agradável, mas esta vista me parece mais original.

Hello Luis, This street reminds me of my first night in Tbilisi, in the hostel that looked like this. We didn't like it and changed to another one. But interesting to walk in this part of the Old City. The balconies are the iconic features.

Fantastic reportage here. The balconies really hang over very far and appear quite heavy. I would really be afraid living in this house now seeing how the few pales are supporting the balcony.
Not a beautiful spot but a photogenic back alley.

Hello Luis,
A very nice view down this quiet street. The old facades of the houses on both sides add lots of fine details and different colours. Most of all I like the red bricks and that yellow wooden balcony, although I don't know if I'd feel very safe inside it.

Hello Luis,
Excellent capture of these old houses in Tbilisi.
I've always liked parts of houses or balconies that hang over the street.
Expecially the building with the yellow wooden balcony is an eye-catcher.
The house on the right in the middle with its brick facade appears to be leaning.
