The Bridge of Peace or Crystal is an arched pedestrian bridge over the Kura River in Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia.

The 150m bridge spanning the Mtkvari River was ordered by the Tbilisi city government to create a contemporary design attraction connecting old Tbilisi with the "new district". The official inauguration took place on May 6, 2010.

Perhaps the most striking and futuristic of the new structures is the so-called Bridge of Peace, the work of the Italian architect Michelle de Lucchi, a daring and elegant pedestrian walkway with an undulating roof of greenish-blue glass, which joins the two banks of the Mtkvari River in the very heart of old Tbilisi.

The contrast between the old stone walls of Narikala Fort, which have guarded the city for centuries, and the joyous color and uninhibited geometry of the new bridge is simply spectacular. A groundbreaking symbol that tries to project the city into the future.

El Puente de la Paz ó de Cristal es un puente peatonal en forma de arco sobre el río Kura en Tiflis, la ciudad capital de Georgia.

El puente que se extiende 150 m sobre el río Mtkvari fue ordenado por el gobierno de la ciudad de Tiflis para crear una atracción de diseño contemporáneo que conectara el viejo Tiflis con el "nuevo distrito". La inauguración oficial tuvo lugar el 6 de mayo de 2010.

Quizá la más llamativa y futurista de las nuevas estructuras sea el llamado Puente de la Paz, obra del arquitecto italiano Michelle de Lucchi, un atrevido y elegante paso peatonal con cubierta ondulada de cristal azul verdoso, que une las dos riberas del río Mtkvari en el mismo corazón de la vieja Tiflis.

El contraste entre las viejas murallas de piedra del fuerte Narikala, que guardan la ciudad desde hace siglos, y el alegre colorido y desinhibida geometría del nuevo puente es sencillamente espectacular. Todo un símbolo rompedor que trata de proyectar la ciudad hacia el futuro.

Hello Luis,
I liked this bridge which really stands out among the traditional architecture surrounding it on most sides, like a peacock among a crowd of magpies. You show us two good photos from very different angles.

Hello Luis,
I have seen several photos of this bridge from a distance, but never from this close. It shows the structure and the glass roof really well and also in a clear sunlight. Well done.

Quite wonderful wave shaped canopy on that bridge. Another special example of architecture in Tbilisi. This just makes me wonder what the river this bridge crosses looks like.

Hola Luis,
It is an amazing structure indeed. I remember seeing it in other people's photos, quite characteristic and unique.
The workshop photo shows another original angle.
Nice weather helped to present it in the best light.
I will certainly rememeber to visit this place when I get to Georgia. Today I was at the airport in Krakow and there were flights departing to Georgia, maybe I should make a use of it...

One of the bridges with the most beautiful design I've ever seen.
Its wavy movements make it very graceful.
