Today I leave you these three photos, which I hope you like, while I'm going on a trip to the coast of Tarragona for a few days.

Tsilkani Mother of God Cathedral is a Georgian Orthodox church located in the town of Tsilkani. Originally built in the 4th century, it was repeatedly remodeled during the Middle Ages. It is inscribed on the list of immovable cultural monuments of Georgia.
Tsilkani Cathedral is located in the center of the eponymous village northwest of the ancient city of Mtskheta on the left bank of the Narekvavi, a tributary of the Aragvi River. The town, site of late Bronze Age burial mounds and other archaeological finds, is also notable for its 4th century Christian crypt.
The Tsilkani Church is credited by medieval Georgian Chronicles to Aspacures III of Iberia (r. C. 365–380), son of Mirian III, the first Christian king of Kartli Iberia from classical sources. Originally a hall church, the cathedral was redesigned as a three-nave basilica in the 5th or 6th century and eventually rebuilt as a domed church in the 12th century. It was renovated in the 16th-17th century. She was also associated in the medieval Georgian tradition elaborated in the 13th century hymns of the clergyman Arsen Bulmaisimisdze with the monk Jesse of Antioch, who was one of the thirteen Assyrian fathers to travel to Kartli around 545. His tomb is said to still be preserved. in the church. The cathedral was the seat of the Archbishop of Tsilkani.
The cathedral was home to the venerated Virgin Odighitria of Tsilkani, a 9th-century icon of the Virgin and Child. The icon was repainted and restored in the early 12th century, but the faces painted with acoustic tempera were left intact. In 1926, the icon was transferred for preservation to the National Museum of Georgia in Tbilisi.
The existing church, which measures 28 x 24 m, was built largely of clad sandstone blocks, is a square crusader building, with a semicircular apse and a central dome supported on four independent pillars. The base of the dome is perforated with 12 windows. The interior is also illuminated with 10 windows cut into the walls. The church has three entrances. The south porch is joined by a small church with a semicircular apse and two niches, connected through a door to the south nave of the cathedral. The church has remains of thick wall paintings, dating from the 15th to 18th centuries.
The cathedral is enclosed within a stone wall from the late 18th century, measuring 58 x 72 m. The wall is traversed by an arched brick door to the southwest and a series of loopholes and rounded corner towers, one of which, to the southeast, is surmounted by a hexagonal bell tower from the 19th century.

Hello Luis, we get a real impression of the age of the cathedral especially in the interior shot as you looked up to the ceiling.
From this point of view we are able to see the details of the building. There are not many windows are there?
It has a very interesting history.
Enjoy your trip to the coast.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hola Luis,
You are becoming a frequent traveller! Is this to make up for the time lost in Covid Lockdowns?
This is a very neat, compact little cathedral, with an interesting shape, as if it has evolved over the years.
The nearest wall certainly looks much more aged, with random stone walls as opposed to dressed stone.
The views of the interior certainly seem to confirm its age.
You have shown us these lovely details with fine quality exposures.
Happy holiday,
Bev :-)

Hello Luis,
Well framed and composed with a nice blue sky backdrop and excellent sharpness. The style is reminiscent of Armenian churches I saw in eastern and south eastern Turkey. Tfs!
