The Rainbow Pride Walk, Calcutta 2006.

Calcutta, known to be the city with a tradition for tolerance, witnessed it's seventh Rainbow Pride 2006. It is the only city in India, so far, to have hosted such an event.

Years ago, on June 27, 1969 , LGBT people had publicly protested police harassment in New York , a daily routine in their lives at the time.

These pride walks are a fallout of the New York incident held all over the world ever since..

To quote one participant: "The pride march is in celebration of our sexuality. To walk on the streets is a political move, to declare publicly our different sexual preferences."
