Two Curious, a photo from West Bengal, East

Photographer's Note

Raichak is a small town or village, located on the bank of the Hooghly river, some 50 km south of Kolkata.

We went out for a walk around the village and chatted with the villagers. It was fun…we found kids flocking towards us with so many questions! And yes, all of them wanted their pictures taken.

This picture is of two kids, who were a bit too shy to ask…so they stayed behind the bamboo gate and were watching us...Curious I would say :-)

Christmas is just around the corner...I wish all of you and your loved ones, a very happy festive season and a very Merry Christmas.

Nice photo of these village kids. You have captured and portrayed their curious/amused look very well. Excellent detailing on the bamboo gate and the mud and brick walls.
A true and natural daily life scene from a village in Bengal. Very well done and thanks for sharing.

nice the snapshot with the two children to be hidden behind the wooden construction as look with what happens on their opposite side.

You have captured well the suprised expression of the children. The point of view is showing the details and colors of their clothings. The white sky does not hurt to much the output of the colors. Have a nice day.

J'aime beaucoup ce portrait. J'aime le format horizontal choisi car il permet de voir l'environnement usuel des deux enfants. J'aime aussi comment ils se tiennent près l'un de l'autre ainsi que la direction commune de leur regard.

By a funny coincidence my latest picture also shows curious Indian kids. It's good to see that children remain the same even as time passes. These girls are very nicely placed in the doorway of their humble home, and it serves the composition well that they are not staring straight into your camera but were fascinated by someone else further back.

Hi Angshu!

This is a very spontaneous and attractive double portrait, almost looking like a scene from a film. The expression of the girls is well captured, and it's without a doubt the strong point of your image. The context is also interesting, and the use of the wooden structure is well exploited, like a theatrical prop in your composition.

I like the low angle and the sense of proximity with your subjects.

Apparently, one of the largest Christian community is in Bombay, so you must have some sense of Christmas, even in India, so enjoy the holiday season, no matter what it means for you my friend... :-p))

They indeed are wonderful fun loving kids well timely shot showing their adorable faces - indeed a universal and always rewarding subject matter to shoot. There is nothing like the innocent play of children to warm our heart and your lovely low pov and the looks of the innocence faces, is a winner for me as they are distracted but I love the more enclosed feel in this for the the greater feeling of them. It's intriguing and your usual great work finding interest in people going about their everyday lives. The range of colours is just superb and good exposure control. It's always great to share that moment with us and what a delightful and joyful image portrayed here. Great shot. Congrats

I love the open curiosity of children and here we see two lovely girls fighting an inner battle between curiosity and shyness. I like the way you have captured them behind the bamboo gate as they imagine it offers some protection! Mother's skirts would have been preferable maybe. A lovely DL shot. Warm regards Rosemary

sarà perchè io vivo in un mondo diverso da quello che tu proponi nelle tue fotografie, ma vedere la semplicità della vita di queste popolazioni mi fa pensare al grande contrasto con la civilta occidentale e all'opulenza delle città occidentali.
Mi si stringe il cuore al solo pensiero di come queste bambine debbano passare parte della loro vita in questa casa di pietra esposta agli eventi atmosferici senza nessuna delle comodità alle quale siamo abituati noi cittadini.
Ed eppure la loro felicità che traspare dallo aguardo dovrebbe insegnare a noi esseri più fortunati ad apprezzare di più quello che giornalmente la vita ci offre.
A volte prima di fare delle lamentele bisognerebbe pensare a chi soffre ed ha una vita molto più difficile. Forse il mondo apparirebbe in maniera digfferente e si imparerebbe ad appreezzare meglio le gioie che a voplte la vita ci dispensa.
Complimenti per la bella fotografia e per il significato che essa trasmette.

I haven't seen much of this region yet! The little house looks a little different from the ones I've seen in the other regions. I like the composition with the curtain and the curious faces of the children, hiding behind the gate. A good portrait, you managed light very well!
