It's Not About the Photo, a photo from Delhi, North

Photographer's Note

As the title says, this TE post is more about the experience and story than the photo itself. The photo isn't very good, the lighting isn't very good, but its the time I spent here with the family that made it memorable.

I took this photo on the rooftop of a home in Delhi, my taxi drivers home, who invited me to spend the evening with his family.

This is a shot looking over across the street to other homes and other families. You can see the children playing, they're flying a Kite. You can also see another woman watching in the top left corner.

I found it so interesting to see how many of the locals lived in this congested city. I'll never forget me time here.

In the WS are two photos of children I had dinner with. I played with them, they were so excited to see me and we played ping pong, ran around playing tag..it was alot of fun.

Hello Craig, Another picture of this memorable meeting in Delhi. Interesting scene on the roof. The house on the left looks interesting.
In kazakhstan, the taxi driver with whom I spent four day also invited me to his home and I could meet his family. It was a very nice experience.

Hello Craig,
Experiences like that one are more important than a perfect composition. As a document of daily life off the tourist tracks this is great. It's easy to imagine your excitement of that day. The laundry makes this photo colourful enough and the surrounding buildings tell us of the environment of Delhi away from India Gate and Connaught Circus. I really like the WS photos too.

Hello Craig,

I think you denigrate your photograph unfairly, this is a fine shot!

Had you not included the edge of the flat roof, in the f/g, we would have assumed that this was a playground, or a street where washing had been hung. By including that drop, the photograph gives a completely different impression!

I can't decide whether the brick wall has been repaired or heightened, but the whole area appears to have a random construction, buildings of different materials just added to extend willy nilly! It's just wonderful that the children are playing on a roof (where's the health and safety) and all around them, there are figures on other rooftops enjoying the scene!!

It was definitely a photograph to share!
The children look nice, too!

Hello Craig, a good title, you are quite right, sometimes the photo is a pleasant reminder of an experience rather than a necessarily ‘pretty’ picture.
This viewpoint shows multi layered living with the children apparently playing on the roof of another dwelling.
They have space to play, compared with other views that you have shared, where living conditions have seemed very congested.
Two good portraits in the W/s. The little boy has a very cheeky and appealing face.

You have captured well a daily life scene. The point of view is showing the deatils of the design of the building on the left and the game played by the children. The light is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Girls may have learned from an early age to be discreet when strangers are around and the boy may just be spontaneous. That girl may be a bit shy, of course.
It is good that these people in the densely built metropolis of Delhi still have an open space where the laundry can be dried and the children can play.
A very striking facade in the upper left corner.
Nice that you also got to know India away from the tourist attractions and that the country and its people have made great impressions on you.

Hello Craig,
That must have been a unique experience to see how the locals live, something you won't see very often as a tourist. The houses make an attractive background, especially the chequered house on the left. The foreground adds lots of fine details, the laundry of course, but also the bicycle against the wall and the child walking just left of the centre.

A good trio of photos. I do like the rooftop one with the washing and no rails around the edge but the chequerboard building next door is especially fascinating for India.

I'm so glad you decided to post more of the photos taken when you visited your taxi driver's family! Priceless.
You may be starting "it's not about the photo" trend. Like "nothing special" (which is very special), this is very much about the photo(s).

Of course, many photos have an added value because of the memories associated with them. Sometimes you accept a somewhat lower quality of the photo, but this certainly does not have to apply to this photo.
Okay, the picture could use a little pimping up. I did that for you and you can see the result in the workshop photo. A nice composition with attractive areas of color.
But of course also an interesting presentation with the accompanying information.

Craig, the picture shows the dense urbanization in Delhi. The clothes of a family are drying on the roof. A pleasant view of the local architecture. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.
