Photographer's Note

Haridwar is situated at height of 314 metres from the sea level in Garwhal region. The sacred Ganges flows in this city. According to legend, Haridwar was the place where goddess Ganga descended when lord Shiva released the mighty river from the locks of his hair. Haridwar is regarded as one of the 7 holiest places (Sapta Puri) to Hindus. Haridwar along with Ujjain, Nashik and Allahabad is one of 4 sites where drops of Amrit, the elixir of immortality, accidentally spilled over from the pitcher while being carried by the celestial bird Garuda. This is manifested in the Kumbha Mela, which is celebrated every 12 years in Haridwar. Alcohol and non-vegetarian food are not permitted in Haridwar. Source : wiki. You found a great viewpoint for this photo. The composition is well-balanced between the grey water and the very busy waterfront, where the people added lots of very attractive and bright colours to the cloudy day.

Colors of the dresses contrast the grey water that shown in high level, but the amazing thing here are the many people around the Sacred Ganges river as far as we can see the bank-side.

the weather did not spoil you but even in difficult light conditions the colorful clothes of people are standing out and make this scene truly eye catching.

Hello Miguel,
I wonder if the level of the water is high above normal. Another shower and the street would be flooded, I imagine. The huge colourful crowd so close the the masses of grey water makes a strange impression. It looks somehow unsafe, but it gave you a superb photo opportunity.

Hello Miguel,

I'd imagine that few Indians learn to swim, hence the safety fence along the river bank, which forms a dynamic diagonal across the frame. Orange seems a popular colour to wear to the ceremony. Tfs!

Hola Miguel In this actual era of frequent street protestations, such a sea of people now tends to look standard...but rather it's not, due to the bright colors all through the gathering by the Gange for pious exercises and also
for the view of these believers bathing alongside the sacred waters. You show an outstanding piece of exoticism in which the fog can be taken for a touch of mysticism. Hasta luego
