Photographer's Note

Nandi at Halebidu on misty morning.

Halebidu (or Halebid) is located in Hassan district of Karnataka state of India. Halebidu was the capital of Hoysala empire during the 12th century. The city was attacked and sacked by Malik Kafur in early 14th centure. The capital was then shifted to nearby Belur.

Haledibu presently has a temple complex with two marvelous temples - the Hoysaleswara and Kedareswara temples. These temples are the finest examples of the Hoysala architecture (another temple of similar style can be seen at Belur and Somnathapura). Apart from these temples there are two Jain basadis which are equally rich in stone work. There is also a beautiful temple in tank at 3km from here at a place called Hulikere.
