Photographer's Note

It was a Monday. In the afternoon I was scheduled to leave Ahmadabad for Delhi by air. With the morning to fill, I walked down Bhavan's College Road to a parkette near the Khanpur Darwaza. Here there was a park bench and a large shade tree. Much to my surprise, the tour guide, who had served me during the Gujarati holiday, was already in occupancy. I joined him on the bench to talk and pass the time. I had the camera at the ready so as to capture any interesting subjects.

This young man was the first of the passersby. What caught my eye was the do-rag over his hair (I don't have much). I decided it was a fashion statement since he did not appear to be a day labourer. Striding along, a recently acquired packet of cigarettes in hand, he brought to mind the rephrased wording of an old hit song. "There he was just a-walkin' up the street, humming dowah diddy...." :-) You get the idea..
