Prag Mahal Palace, Bhuj, Gujarat :

Rao Pragmalji’s Palace is across the courtyard of Bhuj. It was designed by the British engineer Col. Wilkins, but some people believe that he was an Italian. This palace was officially started in 1865 to replace stables and small buildings. It has a wide and large Darbar Hall (25m x 12m) that is 12m high with verandahs, corner towers and zenanas decorated with carving, gilding, Minton tiles and marbles. Good views of surrounding countryside from the tall clock tower are connected to the palace by covered galleries. This palace was built for Rao Pragmalji II (1860-75) by the British architects and the Kutchi builders. Darbar Hall is a museum of Victorian-Edwardian taste with tiger-skins and mounted trophies on the walls, stuffed lions and Art Deco figurines. In one side of the palace, the Logge in Emilia or Romagna and in the second side, the ample terrace are situated. Both these places give us the way to a treeline on the horizon casting shadows into the limpid lake. A jigsaw of red-tiled roofs and trees still deep green months after the monsoon ended is in the third side of the palace. A magnificent cornucopia of fantastic carved wooden balconies and window-screen enlivens walls are in the opposite side of the palace.

Of course the play of shadows & light on the ticket seller appealed to me as he started another lazy winter day with his morning snacks of a deep fried ‘samosa’.

Hi Angshuman,
The light gives a nice warm glow and a halo effect around the man which is nice. He is well framed in the composition by the archway and seems relaxed about to enjoy his snack.

Bonjour Angshuman,

Quel beau portrait. Le profil est bien choisit. J'aime surtout la lumière qui baigne l'ensemble et le petit côté enfumé de l'endroit qui fait une auréole autour de la tête de l'homme.

Hello Angshuman,
A great portrait of the ticket seller in a fine posture as he is eating his morning samosa (my favourite Indian snack). The light falls perfectly on his head, just enough to create a 3D effect of the contrasts among his features. You also managed to avoid over-exposing the background, allowing us to get a reasonable idea of the environment.

Hello Angshu - What I like best about this candid portrait is the light, I think that you have managed your exposure very well to allow some detail in the face of the gentleman to be clearly visible whilst allowing the rim-light to take the central stage. Super soft BG too which adds context and atmosphere. Warm regards rosemary

Nice portrait of this man enjoying his samosa. I enjoy the bengali version 'shingara' more than samosa. I like how the light has marked the outline of the subject. Well managed light to bring out details on the contour of his face even in the shades. Thanks for sharing.

i think that this portait of the man was uploaded some days ago and i had criticized it.
I don't and re-uploaded again but i can say that is a good shot with excellent light and colour management.I like the excellent light management with the shadows to are captured and presented perfect.Well done.

A fascinating portrait, I especially like the silvery light which has outlined the man. The fact that he looks away from the camera is very compelling to me. Despite the backlight, he has been defined superbly and the colours are delightful.
