Make a Wish Come True, a photo from Uttar Pradesh, North

Photographer's Note

This is one of the intricately carved marble ‘jaali’ or lattice at the tomb of Shaikh Salim Chishti.
Shaikh Salim Chisti, a descendant of the famous Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, was a renowned Sufi Saint belonging to the Chisti Order in India. Salim Chisti was greatly venerated by Emperor Akbar. According to the popular legend, Akbar sought the blessings of Salim Chisti when he was having no offsprings. It was only when Salim Chisti blessed Akbar that he was endowed with three sons among whom one was named Salim as a token of gratitude to Salim Chisti's Tomb.
Tomb in Fatehpur Sikri - Tomb of Salim Chisti Fatehpur Sikri was initially made of red sandstone. But the tomb as it stands today sports a marble façade which was a part of the subsequent refurbishment. The tombstone that lies within is shrouded by a cloth and lies beneath a canopy of ebony, mother of pearl and brass. The Tomb of Salim Chisti Fatehpur Sikri has a square shape and is encircled by a corridor graced with lattice marble screens. The exquisite craftsmanship is evident in the intricate designs of the screens in the Tomb in Fatehpur Sikri. The screens are interconnected by a series of heavily embellished marble pillars with branching brackets. The Tomb of Salim Chisti Fatehpur Sikri has a low dome and protruding overhangs that jut out like decorative canopy. The tomb's design can be traced back to the contemporary tombs constructed in Gujarat.
The Fatehpur Sikri Tomb of Salim Chisti is visited by the Hindus and the Muslims alike. They seek the blessings of the Saint and pray for the fulfillment of their wishes. The Fatehpur Sikri Tomb of Salim Chisti is a beautiful tribute on the part of Emperor Akbar to the Sufi Saint who influenced his life in a big way in the Tomb in Fatehpur Sikri. Even it were not a historic monument it would still be an important landmark because it is here that thousands flock to make a wish come true.

I absolutely love lattice work and this is a fine example you have photographed here with all it's lovely detail. Beautiful with the reddish tones coming through from the archways beyond, and the square format works well with the structured bold straight lines of the 'window' which intercept the lattice work.

Framing into framing, can be the title of this picture.
The real framing of the window (or lattice) plus your framing creates a beautiful artistic composition. The moslem artists had to invent thousands of this artistic decorations because of the banish of human figure in sacred places.

That is a wonderfully balanced and symmetrical compo. Love the background you got here. You were lucky with such a nice background. I tried the same with a posting some days ago and there I had less luck with the bakground, since it was partly wall and partly sky giving a different exposure on both parts.

you chose a perfect way to tell a story and to show us a wonderful place and a beautiful piece of artwork.
Perfect squared framing, fitting the symmetrical composition, great light balance and focus.
I usually find frames a surplus, but this one is perfect.

I loved your photos - great graphicness in most of them - but this one took my breath away! It's absolutelly stunning how you showed every single piece of the front lace work and still allow us to clearly see the back through it. I'm not big admirer of frames but in this case, the frame works great with the photo. Thanks for sharing this one, it was a real privilege to see something so wonderful.
