Photographer's Note

As a fiercly patriotic India, i never show and upload such pictures which project poverty and misery of India. India is great and has everything. Its the world's largest democracy and byword for immense wealth and terrible poverty, where billionaires and beggars co-exist without conflict. Where people who construct multi-storey houses never stay below cemented roofs in their entire life time. Where many students have done wonders and education is a family discipline.
But this picture forces me upload. This is the picture of Blind Univeristy Students of India performing in Haridwar during the Maha Kumbh Mela 2010. (for details about MahaKumbh see photo title Mahakumbh in my gallery).

I have converted it into B&W. Yes, because of blindness. Each time I see this shot, I get filled with pain. I thank God. I IMAGINE life without light. Its painfully, fearfully unimaginable and sad. Blindness is great deprivation. These pople are not begging. They are performing to attract attention THAT THEY TOO CAN....

Yes, this is daily life too and we can only be grateful being blind is not a part of our daily life. A good documentary shot & I appreciate the personal touch in your note. I hope you contributed generously to them when you took this picture.

this is one of the most poignant stories told via photograpgy that i have seen in TE in a long time.

fantastic capture of expression and mood. great granularity captured in B&W.

for me this is award winning stuff.

just one small feedback.....may be a black frame would have concealed some edges which tend to look over exposed
