The blustery wind territory 4500 metres+ altitude of Ladakh

I was standing in the high altitude (~4800m) grassy plateau ringed by snowcapped mountains with a small turquoise lake in the middle. This small lake which has got at least 3 names...Thadsangkaru Tso, Kiagar Tso or even the lesser mentioned Tso Chun.

Changtang is the name given to the captivating high altitude plateaus of Western Tibet, an extensive area that sits at an average elevation of 4500 to 5000 meters and is inhabited by such rare animal species as the 'chiru' (Tibetan antelope), 'kyang' (wild Tibetan ass) and blue sheep. This remote and fabled region is the home of the nomadic tribes collectively known as the Changpa, or northern nomads. They are traditional traders of the Changtang, who have wandered these high pastures in true 'caravan' style with their 'gurs' (nomad tents) and flocks of pashmina goats and sheep for centuries. This traditionally Tibetan region lies in part in the Indian Himalaya, although the culture remains purely Tibetan.

On the shore of Kiagar Tso stood this tent of the Changpa family - Motub, his wife and small son. You may notice the smoke coming out of the chimney

Very nice capture of this nomade's tent midst of nowhere.
Great pov and layout.
The blue waterstripe et the center adds a unique taste to your compo.

captivating photo and superb quality. The sky is dramatic and makes the other details of the image more outstanding. The tent in the corner provides good element for the foreground and the washing lines add some extra color. Very beautiful light, sharpness and colors.

Hello Angshuman,
It is very rare to see such dark threatening skies in Ladakh area. Almost all pictures that I have seen and even the ones I have clicked have bright blue skies. So it is refreshing to see these magical lands in a different light in your photos of this area.
Nice view of the Changpa housing arrangement with the lake and the mighty mountains as an attractive backdrop.
I did get to meet some Changpa nomads in the Korzog village, but it was October and they had all winded up their tents to move to lower altitudes. So really nice to see their natural habitat in your photo here. Wouldn't have been bad if Motub and his family was also visible. Thanks for sharing.

This is special Angshu - The wild, remoteness of the landscape is so apparent here and I love the atmosphere the shot conveys. Wonderful colours and light and a lively sky make for a super shot. One small little detail that I really like is the way the tent peaks at the top echoes the peaks in the distance. Nicely done! Warm regards Rosemary

A beautiful picture with natural colors and good light and a testimony on daily life of these people in remote places
I met some of them and their pashminas but did not see their tents
is that the tiny lake before arriving to Tso Moriri ?

Hi Angshu,
What a beautiful moment you have captured. The background looks awesome with a light which has fallen on them. The FG of the tent with the smoke added flavor to it. But I feel the watermark in the middle is a bit distracting.

These tent is a little bit of modern nomads with chimney and smoke.
Also the background with different layers of the mountains makes these picture very nice.
Sharpness and clarity make your picture nice.

The composition is well divided, the sky, the mountains and the tent. The distance between the tent and the mointains is giving depth to the scene. The point of view is showing the details, the colours of the mountains and of the tent. Have a nice dya.

hi angshu. the most desolate place for living possible. yet, i had to smile upon seeing the solar cells. it has a similar impact to seeing tibetan monks using smart phones :)
the light at the backing mountains was great and you used it very well to create layers of light and shade. the turquoise lake is nice and adds to the unearthy feeling (however finding "anshuman photography" on the lake made me grimace a little). i also like the luminocity you obtained in the front part. i found your exif interesting, you went ISO 400 and f/4 (f/4 ???), but then used 1/1600 seconds. maybe it was windy and you didn't want a shaky photo. otherwise my eyes looked for a flying bird or a running horse.

Hello Angshuman,
It's hard to imagine what life could be like having a home like this in a place like this. But this is the fine thing with TE that we get to see so many photos that tell us of ways of life so totally different from what we are used to in our comfortable middle class lives. When such photos are presented as nicely as this, in good compositions of technical high quality and of an artistic skill, it's pure joy to get informed about the world.

You have achieved a fine composition with the tent strongly positionned as a foreground element of interest in this vey beautiful landscape. The slice of blue water helps balance and enhance. The low hanging clouds are a great addition to this photo, and the sun on the mountain peaks is definitely the icing on the cake. Very well done.

Two strong areas that I find have contributed immensely in making this so enchanting; the wonderful sky of diff shades and warm catch light on the mountain slopes complementing the main focal - the tent and the rest so superbly. A neat clean shot indeed, lots of delicacy and smoothness and yet so crispy to view, and thin band of blue water does draw the eyes too. The composition, exposure, colours rendition as well contrast are very well controlled to display the real situation with the moving clouds are well frozen. This is another spectacular high altitude sight from one of the most amazing parts of the world where the whole feeling of the majesty is finely registered. Hats off!! and tfs

Beautiful landscape image and the inclusion of the nomads tent makes it also a daily life type image. A good combination of both genre. Love how the clouds is almost touching down on the ground, it show just how high you are in altitude. Excellent photo quality as always and the golden earth tone really contrast nicely with the blue of the sky and the green of the lake.

It's simple and immensely attractive. If the idea was to show the beauty in ruggedness, you have succeed your mission my friend.

This landscape, and the way you have framed it, conveys a sublime faraway feeling with weather conditions that are surely not estranged to the atmospheric result. The partial light also contribute to the special mood of your image.

I like the "one point of focus", that gurs which is an element of interest on its own, but becomes larger in this remarkable surrounding. The turquoise line is a point of precious water that probably explains why the nomads have installed themselves in this specific spot, and what it does in your photo is to break the uniformity of the golden hue, with a perfect colour complement.

The colours here are absolutely luminous and complement the textures so well. The coloured flags contrast beautifully and I love the play of light in the BG. The landscape seems so harsh and unforgiving, you are very brave travelling to such out of the way places.

At such altitude, it must be really cold and windy, but the landscape is magnificent. I like the colours and it's a very good composition with the tent, the clothes hanging on the line and the smoke coming out. The mountains in background are really wonderful with the sunlight.

Impresive landscape with so high mountains at the back, but what attracks the atencion is the scene of dayly life given by tent, choths and smoke, life over there is really hard and solitary
The turquoise lagoon divide in a way the capture, this color is present in many places ( lakes) located high in Tibet and India

Oh i just loved this one from the thumbnail and now this is bliss, wonder if i ever will go back, the love seems to have perished, but i have respect for the grand old mountains and the people, something seems lost. But when i see such photos it evokes strange feelings, this is where i started, wonder what changed.
