Photographer's Note

Here is another step back in time, to October 1977.

This is from the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir, where one day I made a little tour by shikara on Dal Lake, bordering the state capital Srinagar. Dal Lake is famous for its floating islands, used by the locals for gardening, and for the houseboats invented during the colonial era when local laws didn't allow foreigners to own land or build houses in the Kashmir Valley.

Whereas in South East Asia there are many floating markets,. this was a permanent shop used entirely by floating customers.

Here is a larger version.

Two other scenes from Dal Lake can be seen as workshop photos, one showing a few ducks, the other one a few houseboats.

The photos were all scanned from Kodachrome slides.
