Photographer's Note
In the note to my last photo I described Mysore as a remarkably neat and well built Indian city. I guess it's my duty to show that not everything was perfectly neat; that in fact most of Mysore was quite normal.
Once upon a time the Sree Krishna Theatre must have been a nice and clean building. In 1988 most of its façade was covered with posters for films. It made me wonder how on earth people had managed to reach some of those places. These days it's usually graffiti painters that impress me with their ability to decorate the most awkwardly placed surfaces.
One WS shows another wall full of film posters. The other WS is different, just showing a view I liked.
All these photos from October 1988 were scanned from Kodachrome slides.

The depicted posters gave extra vivid colors to the facade of the old theatre which its grandeur times over - but still evident, Gert.
WS #2 worth a post of its own, IMHO, motion of the many people superbly collected upon the scene.
Wish you a nice sunday,
Ike

Hi Gert, very impressive "artwork" with all the colors of the world on this facade, posters of film everywhere in this incredible view and in the other in the WS. I like a lot the other WS with the people walking in the park, perfect moment with a lovely effect made by backlight in the air and in the ground too with the people shadows. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hi Gert,
The presence of the persons is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the Sree Krishna temple covered with film posters. The light is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice day.

Hej Gert,
Quite surprising view. Movie posters are fine decorative elements, but covering a whole facade of a theatre with them is very original. Real people are well placed on the street level.

WOW! That is amazing and, somehow, unusual, never seen such a facade tapped with posters so high on the walls. Spectacular, though. Well taken scene.

Hello Gert, the posters certainly add lots of colour to the shot. I am impressed by the people who posted the posters, how did they manage to reach such heights and awkward places? They have even posted some over the windows, which kind of suggests to me that the theatre must be derelict. It must have looked quite grand, once upon a time.
I like the inclusion of the people in the foreground.
The extra shots add to our overall impression of Mysore.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Gert
Good to see the chaotic scenery that is typical for Indian city's land that makes it such great places to see and take pictures.
Thanks and regards,
Gerrit

Hej Gert,

Hello Gert,
Indeed your question is right, how could people stick posters at this height.
Today we have an elevator, but 23 year ago in this country, nothing.
Your two additional picture make your reporting completely.
Also excellent detailed view.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John

Hello Gert,
A particularly colourful photo of this temple wall. Beautiful light too.
The low wall in front of it remains remarkably free of posters. Perhaps it was only recently built.
Actually, the temple wall has become one large work of art.
I have to admit I don't have such pictures of India and I wonder why not.
Was I not sufficiently impressed on the spot? Or are those cinema posters no longer present in the streets to that extent?
Since digital photography offers countless possibilities, it remains a mystery to me why I did not take comparable photos on my last two trips to India.
In the front left are two young men wondering why you are taking a picture here.
Another great thing about India is that you always have some stall in front of every wall.
Also in the photo in the WS.
Best regards, Paul

Dear Gert,
All three photos are nice. Maybe WS2 offers some more interesting lights, but I think this one stoles the show with the million details to be observed.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Gert,
Both poster-laden buildings look as if they were quite beautiful buildings, at one time. The balustrades and the attractive windows lay testament to that.
On this main photograph, we can still see the 'Theatre' sign, which is amazing amid all these dilapidated posters! This scene does show a very different aspect of the city.
I liked the w/s, too, showing the people going home after work. There was a pleasing light and atmosphere.
It reminded me of days long gone, when there were lots of cotton mills in our area, and when the hooter sounded for the end of of the working day, hundreds of people emerged from the mill yards. They would be chatting and smiling, to have finished work, and the noise from their clogs, clicking on the cobbles, was very distinctive and loud!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Gert,
I remember a time in Turkey when movie posters would cover walls or facades of abandoned buildings. I like the colorful frame.

Hi Gert
I guess you call these poster graffiti photos and yes getting some of those up high would have been a challenge. Both are good interesting ones and the grainy one (especially in the large view) is also interesting especially with some of those men in short "skirt" like outfits. - something to do with their work?
cheers

Fabulous these 3 photos. The ones with glued banners created a sense of artistic collage. The locals are ever so photogenic, I guess there is not other people so natural face a camera as indians, even not being natural,

Hallo Gert
Were the locals inspired by the extensive decorations of Time Square in New York or by those of the main strip in Las Vegas !
Anyway their attempt to enliven the street corner is noteworthy, just as is the do-it-yourself trolley containing beverages, movable on four bicycle wheels!
This snapshot is quite fascinating in favor of the extravaganza
manifested with attractive colors.

Hi Gert
The old bill posters form a colourful mosaic across the facades of these buildings. Well seen and spotted with good sharpness and the people add scale. Tfs!

Hi Gert.
Wow ... impressive photography, here no graffiti is needed, the walls of the building are covered and that's it, the abandoned theater has gained in color with that multitude of advertising posters, the artisans and vendors in the street give a good vital touch to composition.
Optimal management of lighting and sharpness, with a good perspective.
Well done. I like it.
Have a nice day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello gert,
Yes, this wall is chaotic, but somehow it works for me! :-) All the colors and faces scream out to come inside and see a movie. I like the bricks, and all the activity on the street, too. Take care!

Hi Gert
There seems to be some order to these posters, 3 or 4 of the same one or similar in a row so they created a pattern. I also like the matching red elements, including the stand in the bottom left.
The street shot in WS - I remember that kind of light in the late afternoon in the cities of the Subcontinent. Irresistible photographic treat.
Best wishes
