The Colours of Benares, a photo from Uttar Pradesh, North

Photographer's Note

I haven't got much to say about this photo. I think it falls nicely in the category of nothing special. But the combination of this little girl and colourful fabrics was just irresistible.

The image was taken in "my" part of Varanasi, on the way from my hostel to the ghats. My place for one day and two short nights.

There were lots of these colourful textiles hanging everywhere. I'm going to upload two more photos in WS.

For those of my TE friends who celebrate Easter - have a lovely holiday.

Hello Kasia, sharp focusing on the face of the child is the perfect focal point surrounded by the colourful textiles.
The w/s pictures with the long lengths of fabric are fascinating, and well observed by you, to give us a 'flavour' of this place.

Hello Kasia,

It is a well-spotted genre photo. The shallow depth of field emphasizes the eyes of the child, which are telling a story. I like the vivid colours of the rugs and clothes.

Hello Kasia,
Both WS surprise me for the very long textiles hanging from the walls. They brighten the photos tremendously, but I don't quite recall seeing this habit anywhere. The main photo is the real eye-catcher for the similar colours surrounding the face of the little girl who seem to be focusing on something far away while being busy with a rubber band or something. You found the sharpness perfectly on her eyes.

Hello Kasia,

The fabrics, hanging from the building, add colourful interest but nothing adds interest like this small child peeping curiously over the wall!
It's an excellent, angled composition, with strong focus on the little girl, the oof areas confirming the setting.

Masz racje, ladne kolorki i urocze dziecko. Swietny efekt z glebia ostrosci. Dziecko i moze rowniez cegly sa wyraznie w centrum uwagi. Otoczenie dostarcza barwnego tla.
Ja mialem tylko jedna okazje zeby fotografowac dzieci na Cape Verde ale jak zwykle bylem zbyt zawstydzony zeby zrobic wiecej zdjec wiec pewnie pokaze tylko jedno, ale dopiero po wraku...

Hello Kasia,
The textiles in the WS are so large that they hang over several floors.
I suspect that several saris are made from one cloth.
Nice kid waving her hand.

Very well spotted, an excellent photo of this young child leaning over the wall. The bricks and the colourful cloths on both sides are well included too with a great depth of field.
