Photographer's Note

This is a baby cow I found close to Marhi between Manali and Rohtang 3300+ mts. He was just a few months old, had an injured hind leg and was limping badly.

A lot of times newborns born on these Himalayan hill slopes tumble down and hurt themselves. This calf seemed to be one such unfortunate case.

While standing, he would move in circles. Apparently, this calf had a broken pelvic bone and was really in pain. He would want to lean against me and seemed to like it. I figured that the poor creature was doing this because the support gave him temporary relief from the pain.

It was sad to see the suffering of this baby animal and it was painful not to be able to do anything about it.
