Photographer's Note
I SHOT IT AT GANGASAGAR MELA(FAIR).FOCAL LENGTH=35MM.
Gangasagar Mela is the largest fair celebrated in West Bengal(INDIA). This fair is held where the Ganga and the Bay of Bengal form a nexus. Hence the name Gangasagar Mela. This festival is celebrated during January every year and is a major attraction for millions of piligrams from all over India.
The pilgrims come for a holy dip on Makar Sankranti (last day of the Bengali Month) Negha -Mid January. They take dips in the Ganges and offer water to the Sun God. The dip, as they say, purifies their 'self' and according to them, 'punya' can be obtained thus. When they are done with the ritual obligations, they head towards the Kapilmuni Temple situated nearby, to worship the deity as a mark of respect.
***IN THIS SHOT ,THE POOR LADY IS BEGGING TO SHOW HIS THE CHILD"S OLD PHOTO TO PROVE(!!!?) THAT HER CHILD IS LIKE THIS FROM BIRTH...***

Hi Subir.
An energetic frame, composed colourfully and with high actions..
The depth it releases to us is fantastic..
I have seen such scenes here in Kerala too..
What can we do?...
Let this image open up the eyes of the officials..
My prayers for them..

A powerful image Subir, and nicely composed too. A picture to make us think of the plight of so many and how fortunate we are in comparison.

Hi Subir,
Pity about the poor child but this is a powerful image all the same. The sarees left out to dry adds another angle to this image.
Best Wishes

It makes me feel bad giving a smiling face to an image like this. So I guess the image works!!!!
Well done in capturing the mood and the moment. It really conveys what the mother is feeling.....

For sure the strongest picture I have seen on TE today. Yes it is very sad for the child, very sad for the poor lady. But at the same time what an incredible shot, on this piece of land where nothing grows, sand, wind and sun, people coming and going and them... likely unnoticed by most sitting on the sand waiting for who does no what....
