Photographer's Note
I thought no color would fit this famous row of traditional tongkonan houses in the Toraja region of Sulawesi. Contrary to the expectations one has as a tourist visiting Toraja, Kete Kesu is still a functional village, not a tourist trap, some tongkonans are inhabited (one had a top notch stereo in one of the rooms), while all of them serve as a meeting place of the clan. In order to reinforce the ties of the clan members with the tongkonan, many parents bury their children's placentas under the tongkonan.
