Photographer's Note
A minimalist colour shot of a stone lantern in Nikko, Japan. Taken just weeks before the big earthquake of March 2011. Similar lanterns can be seen at Nara near Kyoto. Nikko also has lots of nice lakes and waterfalls in the vicinity, but February is probably not the best month to see them. Toshogu Temple dates from 1634.

Bonjour Chris,
Le cadrage serré met la lanterne en évidence. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de la lanterne de pierre. La lumière fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne journée.

Hello Chris,
The tiny tufts of grass reveal this as a colour photo. Otherwise it's very much a black lantern against fresh white snow. The angle from above underscores this contrast. The elegance and attention to the details that characterize most Japanese products is evident.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Chris,
A good and very sharp photo of this lantern, captured from a good angle. It shows the details really well and the snow made the dark tones stand out really well.

Hello Chris,
I was in Nikko in the month of April and it was quite cold in the evening.
You were there even one month earlier in the year while there was still snow.
The lantern is a beautiful piece of art.
Good sharp photo that shows us the detailed work.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Chris,
This is a very unique and charming little stone lantern.
I thought it was some kind of an urn in the temple.
I bet it must be very beautiful when they're all light-up at night time.
I just love the simple patterns and the top like an 'Emperor Hat'. Truly amazing.
For me ... the best time to visit Japan will be either Spring or Autumn. I think I would prefer during Autumn :-)
Tfs,
Loong
