Photographer's Note

After a long winter, with snow still on the ground in places, the japanese macaws have little food to choose from. Here, one individual sits in a field of dry grass, digging up individual strands of fresh green grass, burried below (you can see a strand in his hand).

I was able to get quite close for this shot (2-3 meters?), since the monkeys there are used to humans and couldn't care less about my actions as long as they didn't interrupt lunch.
